Contemporary Lighting in HVCH Homes
At HV Contemporary Homes, we design residences that incorporate principles of modern design such as clean lines, use of natural materials, large windows, and seamless interior/exterior transitions. In previous posts, I’ve highlighted how we use contemporary design features such as expansive glass and modern stairs in our homes. Today’s post talks about how we use contemporary lighting fixtures, such as recessed and minimalist fixtures, in order to keep with the simple modern design of our homes. Pendants, sconces and larger signature pieces are also incorporated throughout the homes for additional lighting when necessary and to add a touch of modern design flare.
TinkerBox
Recessed lighting is used throughout the second floor in TinkerBox, including in the living room and kitchen. Keeping with the guest house’s theme of “tinkering”, a custom made chandelier named Lightweight (designed and constructed by Studio MM ) hangs to give more light in the adjacent dining area. Lighting fixtures hanging in the two-story entryway highlight artwork as well as light the surrounding space, furniture, and 12 foot entry door.
Creek House
In the Creek House, recessed lighting above fades into the background complementing the minimal look of the main living space and helping to highlight the view beyond the surrounding glass walls. In the dining room, a chandelier gives additional light while making a statement. In the bathroom, sconces were used to set a relaxing mood.
Lantern House
Recessed lighting is used throughout the main living space in the one story Lantern Ridge House. A hanging light fixture is used over the island in order to bring more light into the kitchen. Continuing outdoors via the wood ceiling covering the surrounding deck, recessed lighting fixtures illuminate the entire home transforming into a lantern at night, and inspiring its name.
