We often post recipes on this blog that focus on seasonal veggies. Many of those recipes include fresh herbs. We’ve planted herb gardens in the past, but this year we thought it would be fun to share what we got up to last weekend!
Farm Fresh Herbs
We stopped by Adams Fairacre Farms this weekend. They’re a farm market and garden center in Kingston.

We picked up three varieties of basil. One of them a Genovese Basil, which is popular for many culinary uses, especially pesto. For a great pesto recipe, check out this Five Basil Pesto we made from our prior herb garden at Tinkerbox. We also picked up some Everleaf Genovese Basil, which grows in a compact 18″ bush, and some Red Rubin Basil. Red Rubin Basil is the perfect garnish for summer salads or pastas and adds a beautiful pop of color to your plate!
We’re also big fans of thyme. This year, we picked up a two varieties of thyme, including Golden Lemon Thyme. Unsurprisingly, this variety of thyme has a slight hint of lemon flavor, which makes it perfect for many fish and meat dishes.
This year we’re also growing Staro Chives. These chives have a thicker and heavier leaf than other chives and is sweeter. It holds up well to cooking, perfect for our needs!
Finally, we picked up some Provence Lavender and set the rosemary plants that we already have outside!
If you’re looking for your own herbs, we highly recommend stopping by Adams! Other local options to find your own herbs for your home garden include Davenport Farms and Saunderskill Farms!
