With daffodils and forsythias starting to bloom (though the cold snap this week may have a thing or two to say about that…) we thought it would be a great moment to highlight another group of local craftspeople. This week, we’re using the term craftspeople a bit loosely and highlighting flower farms in the area. Our series on craftspeople has already showcased some of our favorite florists, but there are also a number of folks in the area who grow their own blooms.
Alchemy Farmhouse
Alchemy Farmhouse serves the Gardiner, New Paltz and Kingston areas with their flower farm CSA. They are a self-described micro farm and often offer workshops and events for those looking to start growing their own flowers. They also offer an annual Tulip CSA in January and February, but you need to sign up early so be sure to add yourself to their newsletter list to get CSA sign-up announcements!

Whimsy Flowers Farm
We often enjoy the work of Whimsy Flowers at Mill & Main’s restaurant. Another micro flower farm, Whimsy Flowers uses solar energy to heat their greenhouses and power their workspace. They love to offer consultation services for weddings and other special events, but also collaborate with other local businesses in the area.

Sea Change Farm & Flower
Sea Change Farm & Flower prides itself on being a farmer-florist. The owner, Samantha, is a former sculptor and offers both locally farmed flowers and sculptural elements for weddings and special events. She also writes an occasional blog highlighting tips and tricks on flowers and arrangements. Sea Change prides itself on growing many of the flowers it uses for events on their own farm and is a huge advocate of the Slow Flowers movement.

Catskill Mountain Lavender
Finally, we had to include our favorite lavender farm! Catskill Mountain Lavender offers an assortment of fresh lavender and lavender-based products. They also open their lavender field in Saugerties for U-Pick lavender sessions. Keep an eye on their Instagram page to find out 2024 dates later this spring.
