Sometimes in the winter you need something a little stronger to keep you warm. Today we’re going to share fun winter cocktails made with the snow right outside your home! Our first recipe, the Snow Toddy, is inspired by a Cold Toddy, and the Snow Cacao Manhattan takes a fun twist on our Cacao Manhattan we shared a while back.
The most fun part of these recipes is packing a firm snowball to go in your drink. We used martini glasses since they hold a decent sized snowball; you could also use a coupe glass or any cup with a wider rim. Be sure to pack your snowball very tightly so it stays together once the drink is added. If your snowball is too fluffy add a little bit of water to help pack it. Pro tip– pack your snowball after you have mixed your drink and make the drink outside.
Snow Toddy
For our bourbon, we used Cooper’s Daughter’s Smoked Maple Bourbon, made in Olde York Farm, Claverack, NY. We even left it outside to chill overnight.
Ingredients
2 oz bourbon
1 oz lemon juice
.5 oz honey
2 oz apple cider
3″ snowball
cinnamon stick
Step 1:
Juice the lemon and mix it with the honey and apple cider. Then add the bourbon in the mixture and stir.
Step 2:
Pack a snowball for each glass
Step 3:
Pour the mixture over the snowball.
Step 4:
Garnish with a cinnamon stick and enjoy!
Snow Cacao Manhattan
For our whiskey, we used Hudson Whiskey NY’s Four Part Harmony from Tuthilltown Spirits Distillery that’s aged a minimum of seven years.
Ingredients
2 oz whiskey or rye
1 oz cacao liquor
2-3 splashes of bitters
3″ snowball
lemon twist
Step 1:
Mix the whiskey, cacao liquor and bitters.
Step 2:
Pack a tight snowball and place in glass
Step 3:
Pour the mixture over your snowball.
Step 4:
Lastly, garnish with a lemon twist and enjoy!
If your children or family members who don’t drink want to join you in your snowball fun, only use apple cider for the Snow Toddy. As for the Snow Cacao Manhattan, replace the whiskey with 2 tsp of decaf black tea and 1 tsp of simple syrup and the cacao liquor with 1/2 tsp of vanilla. The bitters help add to the taste, but may not be as enjoyable for the little ones. Enjoy!
