Modern Stairs in HVCH Homes
Nothing sets the tone of a house more than its stairs. When stairs are done properly they instantly give a house a sense of proportion and style. At HVCH, we design staircases that incorporate principles of modern design such as clean lines and the use of natural materials. Not only are these staircases well designed but the quality of construction by our team of craftsmen is truly exceptional. This combination results in handcrafted modern stairs of high quality that integrate with the style of our contemporary homes.
Modern Design Details: Staircase Design
“ If a building could be thought of as the architect’s manifesto to construction, then the staircase can be seen
as the designer’s autograph – a signature flourish that can embody the entire statement of design for a building in a singular structure. “ – ArchDaily
Architecture is often seen as the art of balancing form and function. Nowhere is that better illustrated than in the design details of a modern staircase. The beauty of these modern architectural details is a result of not only the design, but the quality of the construction – and the architect’s collaboration with the construction team. In the case of the Creek House, the modern staircase was a combined effort of our design team, our expert team of craftsmen who built the house, and Beechford Stairs who constructed the stairs.
Using Natural Materials
TinkerBox’s stairs were a real treat for our design team – which is no surprise – architects always LOVE designing modern stair details. But our Tinkerbox stairs are extra special for a few reasons. These stairs are a major design detail and can be seen immediately upon entering the home.
Designed in order to show off the beauty of the hardwoods used, each stair tread is 5” thick and the oak and maple end grain is exposed on both sides.
We actually used hardwood trees cut down directly from the property for these stairs. We always like to leave as many trees as we can but sometimes a few do need to be removed in order to clear a site to build. We are so thrilled that we were able to re-purpose and incorporate them into the design of TinkerBox – literally, bringing inside natural elements from the surrounding outdoors.
