We recently began construction on Chalet Perche, a new modern home in New York’s Hudson Valley. It’s the first home at Waterfalls Properties where we collaborated with clients on a custom design so our clients are just as excited as we are to see construction begin!
Pouring the Concrete Foundation: Pouring concrete CAN be exciting…especially when you know what’s coming next! We are very lucky to have a creative and flexible team of craftsmen who are as excited as we are about getting this house built and are willing to make sure this project can move forward even in difficult weather!
By changing the sequence of things around a bit our team has been able to move forward with construction despite the unusually cold weather we’ve been having this winter. Slowly but surely our construction team has been building the foundation walls. Typically the slab would be poured next and when completed, the walls would be built. But since it’s difficult and not wise to pour concrete in extremely cold weather, our team will work on building the frame of the house next and hold off on pouring the the slab until the weather warms up this spring.
The exterior walls will be built directly on top of the foundation walls. The floor slab will be completely separate from the foundation. Like most of the modern homes we design with open floor plans, Chalet Perche will have minimal interior walls so it is mainly the exterior walls that bear all the load. That means we can construct the house around the floor and the concrete contractor can come back to pour that slab when the weather cooperates.
We will continue to update you as the project progresses, so check back for more fun photos soon!
