We know that a lot of people are looking to live in upstate New York and are searching for custom modern homes in the Hudson Valley. What is that process like? How do you find land in the Hudson Valley? What modern architects are based in the Hudson Valley? We’re here to answer some of your potential questions.
Each and every home in one of HVCH’s communities is not only designed to be site-specific, but is created with a client in mind. Whether the project is a custom home that our architecture team at Studio MM designs in collaboration with a client, or is crafted with a fictional client in mind, each of our homes is well thought out, meticulously crafted, and unique. If you’re currently looking for a custom home, you’re in the right place!
We realize that the process of designing and building a new home may seem daunting at first, but with many years of experience building and designing in the Hudson Valley, the team at Studio MM is always able to listen to our clients’ dreams and wishes to create a home that suits them and their distinct site. They work closely with our clients throughout the process, from initial brainstorming to final detailing onsite.
“I know from talking to clients that many people find the idea of building a new home from scratch daunting and are overwhelmed by the thought of taking on such a project. I completely understand this hesitation. After designing and building homes myself as both the architect and client, I have literally walked in your shoes. Through that process I have learned what pitfalls to look out for, how to work efficiently with a construction team, how to keep the project on time and on budget, and how to design and build in a cost effective manner in order to produce a final product that is high quality at a competitive cost. With my experience I can offer expertise from both sides of the equation and therefore work with clients throughout every part of the process in order to mitigate any of their worries.” – Marica McKeel, Studio MM Architect
Potential new clients are drawn to our range of projects – everything from modern cabins to cantilevering tree-house-like homes. They’ll come with many questions and we of course welcome them all. Oftentimes, the conversation will lead to the possibility of working with Studio MM to build a custom home. The process of designing a home with Studio MM always start by learning more about how you live – from your morning routine to whether or not you enjoy hosting guests. They will work with you to gather inspiration images and begin experimenting with different designs. During initial design phases, the team might make sun or sound studies to better understand the site. They’ll visit your property and understand what you find most compelling about it.
As Studio MM continues to narrow the design down, fixtures, materials, and color are meticulously thought through to finalize the home. They work with you to design a cohesive home that evokes your sense of style and personality. Once the design is finalized, they’ll work with engineers to finalize their drawings and help to bid the project. Once permits are obtained and construction begins, the design team will be onsite often to check up on construction progress, resolve any questions from the contractor and to provide the clients with regular, meaningful updates.
