It’s the perfect time of the year to share some of our favorite florists in the Hudson Valley. This spotlight on florists is a continuation on our Hudson Valley Craftspeople series. In the past we’ve covered textile, candle, and soap makers. Florists are experts in how to make cut flowers last longer, have an eye for beautiful bouquet arrangements, and can transform event venues with their plants. Get ready for a cheery and colorful post; here are a few Hudson Valley florists we love:
Hudson Valley Craftspeople: Florists
The Parcel Flower Co
In Cold Spring, NY The Parcel Flower Co prioritizes growing their own flowers and sourcing from local farmers. They also dry their dead flowers and compost to reduce waste.
Stars of the Meadow
Based in Accord, Stars of the Meadow’s mission is “to grow high quality floral material to contribute towards a regional floral supply, and to provide farmer’s market go-ers, florists, wedding designers, people getting married and other flower loving individuals an alternative to the chemically driven global floral trade”.
Fern & Fawn
Based in Kingston, NY, Fern & Fawn “are growing bio-diverse flower gardens to support the bees, butterflies, and birds”. I personally love their approach to bouquets, adding greens and playing with different stem lengths.
Flower Kraut
Flower Kraut is based in Hudson, NY with an array of plants from flowers to house plants to brighten up your home. They also stock local and regional creatives’ work including pots, vases, all things apothecary and even probiotics! It’s definitely a great place to find gifts for your loved ones.
Ravenwood
Another one stop shop is Ravenwood in Kerhonkson, NY. We’ve mentioned them before in our maple syrup blog post and many others!. Ravenwood sells a range of their own flowers and from other florists like Stars of the Meadow, Sea Change Flower, and Cedar Farm. By collaborating with other florists, Ravenwood has a wide selection with the opportunity to buy a pre-made bouquet or make-your-own. Ravenwood’s co-owner Dana McClure makes mixed media work “directly influenced by the heightened seasonality that comes with living on a farm in Upstate NY.” If you want flowers to last forever, you can always have a print of them on your wall!
Support these woman (co)owned businesses and brighten up your space. They know all of the tips and tricks for keeping your plants alive and thriving, so be sure to reach out if you have a special event coming up!
