Hudson Valley Craftspeople: Jewelry

Today we’re continuing our series highlighting a few of the endlessly talented craftspeople in the Hudson Valley. In this post we’ll focus on jewelers. Previously we’ve looked at candle and soap makers, ceramicists, florists, and textile artists. There are so many jewelry makers in the Hudson Valley as well as small businesses that support jewelry makers from all over the country, that we thought it’d be fun to showcase this unique and delicate form of art. In this post we will be spotlighting artists with studios in the Hudson Valley- whether they have a physical storefront or sell their products on Etsy.

J Bliss Studios

Based in Woodstock, artists Joanna and Jared Bliss not only sell their handmade jewelry but also sell their illustrations and other metal works. Scrolling through their Instagram you can see how each custom piece and their clients are special to them.

Marysa Sacerdote

Drawing from imagery of branches, flowers, and leaves, Marysa’s work reflects the nature of the Hudson Valley. Marysa’s studio is based in Kingston where these elegant pieces are hand crafted.

Biti Besha Jewelry

Kaja Dedijer, the founder of Biti Besga, is based in Kingston. Kaja has written such a beautiful note dedicated to those who stumble upon her Etsy shop. Here is an excerpt I love, “One of the sweetest sounds I’ve ever known is the gentle jangling of my grandmother’s bangles. To this day, the sound of silver bracelets slipping down my wrist instantly transports me to childhood summers with my grandparents…”. For Kaja, jewelry is more than an item and becomes a memory.

Late Late Jewelry Studio

Late Late Jewelry Studio (LLJS) has a range of original designs of handmade pieces. Inspired by “kitschy antique shops” and the “upstate palette [of] trees and vines, tiny treasures and well-worn individuality”. LLJS is based in Beacon and you can find them at the Beacon Flea Market.

Anatoli

Cathleen, raised in Woodstock, and Kostas, raised in Athens, have been running their business for over 30 years. Their “mutual love of travel, history, nature, and architecture inspire the detail in [their] work”. I love their hammered metal designs for their handmade feel.

Marisa Lomonaco

Handmade in Beacon, Marisa specializes in custom jewelry “constructed with an emphasis on quality and longevity”. Her workshop is located at 9 Hanna Lane in Beacon. We know our readers share our love for craftsmanship and detail, so we hope you enjoyed learning about these jewelry makers in the Hudson Valley. I really enjoyed reading about each of these artists and why they do what they do, and being invited to learn why someone is passionate about their craft is so special. I loved the way each of them described their connection to their creations and (in many cases) to their natural surroundings, making each of their pieces just that much more unique and tied to the Hudson Valley.
